These are some of our varieties of herbs, flowers, and vegetables that we will have for the season. Please reference our 'Products and When You Can Expect Them' tab- just to make sure they are ready! Or contact our farm... We will be continually adding to this page- so check back!

Genovese

Classic large leaf, sweet Italian variety that has a slightly spicy taste and wonderful aroma. Perfect for cooking or pesto.

Italian Large Leaf

Another large leaf variety, this is slightly sweeter as compared to Genovese. Also works well in dishes and pesto making.

Thai

This variety of basil has a spicy flavor with purple stems and narrow green leaves. Works well in stir fry's or Thai inspired dishes.

  

 Purple Dark Opal

This beautiful basil variety has dark purple leaves, which contrast nicely with green varieties in dishes or garnishes.

Chives
Chives

Chives/ Garlic Chives 

Delicate onion flavored foliage is great for cooking. Garlic chives have a hint of garlic flavor, so both well with potatoes and omelettes especially. The flowers are also edible.

Cilantro/Coriander
Cilantro

Cilantro

The leaves of this plant are a must have in Mexican cuisine. The seeds of this plant are called coriander and also used extensively in cooking. We continually sow cilantro, so we should have a consistent supply throughout the summer.

Dill
Dill

This variety has 6'' umbels of flowers and a very recognized aroma. Dill is perfect for those dilly beans or pickles, or even as part of a bouquet. It reminds me of my great grandma Hughes's immaculate gardens!

Lavender

Lavender

This herb is often used fresh or dried in essential oils. Lavender can also be used in floral arrangements for a delicate touch in summer bouquets. We will have several varieties growing.

 

Mint
Spearmint & Peppermint

Spearmint & Peppermint

Spearmint and peppermint are two of our mints available and are commonly found in essential oils, garnishes, and for adding flavor to beverages. It is one of our 'trickiest' herbs to grow because it is very invasive and doesn't like to be contained! We will also have limited quantities of chocolate mint available- mint with a chocolate fragrance!

Oregano

Our oregano has purple stems and spade- like green leaves, with a rich flavor perfect for seasoning pasta and pizza sauces. It is a must have for Italian cooking!

Parsley

Triple Curled & Italian Flat Leaf

Parsley is commonly used for seasoning dishes, and has a nice clean after taste. It is rich in vitamins and minerals and also may be used as a garnish.

Rosemary

Rosemary is useful in seasoning lamb and chicken dishes especially, but is also used for its essential oils. It grows well in containers and has nice silvery- gray long leaves and woody stems.

This is a classic culinary herb, great for seasoning meat and sauces especially. It is more potent when dried. 

 

Thyme

Thyme

Thyme is often used in French cooking in sauces or to season meat. The delicate leaves are flavorful and more potent when dried.

Premium Crop Hybrid

Premium Crop is a producer of large, blue-green heads that keep well. Broccoli is naturally high in vitamins A and C, as well as antioxidants- thought to protect against some types of cancers.

Green Goliath

Green Goliath produces large heads of broccoli as well as flavorful side shoots. Broccoli will be available in the early Spring and possibly the Fall- it prefers cooler temperatures.

Another large headed variety that keeps well and is loaded with vitamins. We chose this one because of it grows exceptionally well in our Northern climate.

This variety is known for its large heads and cold tolerance (meaning we can plant a little earlier, hopefully!).

Long Island Improved

Brussel Sprouts might be one of the most disliked vegetables, however there are many of us that have come around. We like these 'little cabbages' sauteed in butter and garlic. This particular variety has been around since the 1800's.

This petite carrot was developed in France especially for pickling and canning, but it is also great for roasting or snacking on!  One of our favorites...

Red Cored Chantenay

This variety has been around since 1929 (some say even earlier) and has delicious flavor & sweetness.  A must have for cooking or eating raw.

Armemian Garlic

These gloves are loaded with an intense, Earthy flavor when used raw. When cooked, it has a rich taste- one of our favorites for cooking or baking! Heirloom Variety.

Music Garlic

The taste of this variety is medium hot and robust. This variety stores well. It also is very cold tolerant does well in our Iowa winters. Heirloom Variety. 

Purple Glazer Garlic

This variety is tinged with purple and silver, and has a little sweetness to it. It also is one of the best baking garlics. Heirloom Variety.

Lettuce- 40+ Varieties Available 

Lettuce does best in cooler temperatures and will be one of the first early crops available. We will have a beauitful assortment of colors, leaf shapes, and textures- perfect for salads and wraps.

Leeks are one of the most mild and sweetest members of the onion family. They are commonly used in soups or sauteed- basically anywhere a milder onion flavor is desired.

These members of the onion family have a nice, fresh onion flavor. They are commonly chopped and used as garnishes- especially with Mexican food!

Another really great red slicing onion that has good storage capabilities. This onion matures earlier than other reds.

Red Candy Apple- Red Onion

This variety is one of the earliest red onions, so it should make its appearance in your baskets and be for sale at the markets a little earlier than you might expect! These onions are great for cooking or eating raw- absolutely delicious on a burger at a cookout!

This softball sized, sweet onion stores for up to three months. It can be used in any onion recipe but makes especially delicious onion rings!

This sweet onion is known for its early maturity. They have thin necks that dry quickly and is long lasting in storage.

This variety produces jumbo sized onions that are more mild. These are perfect for cooking or eating raw and stores well.

Yukon Gold

This is a smooth skinned potato with bright yellow flesh. Yukon Gold's are an all purpose potato- great for roasting, grilling, mashing and more.

Shallot

Shallot

A shallot is a member of the onion family. We like to use them in risotto, but they are also widely used as an ingredient in potato dishes. They have a nice, more mild onion flavor.

Heirloom Tomatoes

We are proud to be growing over 40+ varieties of heirloom tomatoes in all flavors, shapes, sizes, and colors. Some varieties include: Green Zebra, Brandyine, Black Sea Man, Isis Candy, Egg Yolk, Calabrese- just to name a few!

Many of these seeds have been passed down from one generation to the next and have interesting histories or folklore. I really became fascinated with these after cooking and noticing their distinct flavors and personalities. Take advantage of their beauty and flavors by using them in bruschetta or a Caprese salad!
